Rabies is the other core kitten vaccination.

Kittens first injections age. Some vaccines might be given together in one injection that is called a combination vaccine. When are kitten vaccinations due. Kitties need several immunizations during their first year to protect them against serious diseases. The kitten should be vaccinated at the age of 8 weeks with a booster about three to four weeks after that.

This is known as the primary course. An initial vaccination course is made up of two separate injections three to four weeks apart. After this kittens and cats usually need booster vaccinations every twelve months. Until your kitten is fully vaccinated and neutered you should keep him or her inside.

After that cats should be taken for a vaccination appointment every year although not all vaccines will be given at every appointment as some jabs provide protection for longer than others. Kittens should have their first set of vaccinations at nine weeks old and at three months old they should receive the second set to boost their immune system. Kitten vaccines are usually first given at about six to eight weeks of age and repeated approximately every three weeks until about 16 to 18 weeks of age. Kittens are old enough to be vaccinated once they are 8 9 weeks old.

Your vet will advise on what is required. But after about six weeks old and eating solid food it s time for them to be vaccinated. The first injection can be given from eight weeks of age with the second shortly afterwards. Kittens should be kept away from other cats and stay indoors for seven days after the second injection to ensure maximum protection.

Kittens are vaccinated once every three to four weeks until they reach 16 weeks of age or older. Kittens should then have an annual vaccination appointment each year throughout their lives in order keep their immunity topped up and maintain protection. Kittens must be over 12 weeks old at the time of the second vaccination. However to avoid over vaccination most veterinarians will recommend starting the vaccine at 8 weeks of age followed by boosters at 12 weeks and 16 weeks old.

Kittens usually start with a course of two injections given at nine and 12 weeks. To maintain the level of protection provided by vaccination adult cats require regular boosters. A booster follows this first vaccination 12 months later and then again once a year throughout the cat s adult life. Keep the vaccination record safe and check whether your vet practice offers a vaccination reminder service.

Annual boosters are recommended for cats who go outdoors or are at high risk for coming in contact with a cat with feline leukemia.
