How Often Should A Kitten Be Vaccinated
A booster vaccine should be given one year later to keep immunity levels high.
How often should a kitten be vaccinated. Kittens should start getting vaccinations when they are 6 to 8 weeks old until they are about 16 weeks old. Too late and kittens will be left susceptible to infection. The shots come in a series every 3 to 4. We recommend doing the puppy and kitten series and a booster vaccine in one year and then every three years for the majority of core vaccines or possibly only rabies for indoor only animals.
Two vaccines are usually needed three to four weeks apart. Kittens can start their vaccinations from nine weeks old and will need a second set of injections usually 2 4 weeks after their initial set to complete their course. Then they must be boostered a year latyer. But after about six weeks old and eating solid food it s time for them to be vaccinated.
Kitties need several immunizations during their first year to protect them against serious diseases. Many vaccines can be given to pets as young as 6 weeks old so talk to your vet. Continue to administer vaccines every two to four weeks weeks until your kitten is 16 weeks old. Kittens are vaccinated once every three to four weeks until they reach 16 weeks of age or older.
If your pet is a puppy or kitten they will usually be vaccinated three times in a period of six months and after that it could be yearly or even triennially top ups. When kittens are nursing antibodies in their mother s milk help protect them from infections. Rabies is the other core kitten vaccination. Kittens should have their first set of vaccinations at nine weeks old and at three months old they should receive the second set to boost their immune system.
Until your kitten is fully vaccinated and neutered you should keep him or her inside. In most cases core vaccines are administered every three years or even longer if the animal s conditions and environment support it. For example your vet may suggest certain non core vaccinations if your cat or dog is outdoors only or boarded often. In general the three core feline vaccines should be administered to a kitten every two to four weeks between six to eight weeks of age and 16 weeks of age.
However to avoid over vaccination most veterinarians will recommend starting the vaccine at 8 weeks of age followed by boosters at 12 weeks and 16 weeks old. Studies have shown that most animals have immunity from the diseases they are vaccinated against for at least three years after their first booster.
